Understanding the Map

🌧️ Precipitation Overlay

The colored overlay on the map shows precipitation intensity in millimeters per hour (mm/h). Use the legend toggle button on the map to show or hide this legend.

0-0.2 mm/h
0.2-0.5 mm/h
0.5-1 mm/h
1-2 mm/h
2-5 mm/h
5-10 mm/h
10-20 mm/h
20-40 mm/h
> 40 mm/h

πŸ“ Route Waypoint Markers

The colored dots along your route show weather conditions at evenly-spaced points. Each marker displays an icon and temperature above it. Click any marker to see a detailed forecast popup with temperature, precipitation, wind speed, humidity, weather conditions, and expected arrival time.

How Marker Colors Are Determined:

Marker colors follow a priority system: If precipitation is present (> 0 mm/h), the marker uses a blue gradient where intensity increases with precipitation amount (normalized up to 5 mm/h). Otherwise, the color is based on temperature as shown below.

Temperature-Based Colors (when no precipitation)

🌨️
Cold (< 0Β°C)

Freezing temperatures - Blue (#60a5fa)

🌀️
Cool (0-10Β°C)

Chilly conditions - Light Blue (#a5b4fc)

β˜€οΈ
Mild (10-20Β°C)

Pleasant weather - Green (#4ade80)

β˜€οΈ
Warm (20-30Β°C)

Comfortable warmth - Yellow (#fbbf24)

πŸ”₯
Hot (> 30Β°C)

High temperatures - Red (#f87171)

Precipitation Override (takes priority)

🌧️
Precipitation Present

Blue gradient (intensity = precipitation / 5 mm/h, max 1.0). Gradient ranges from light cyan to deep blue based on precipitation intensity.

Weather Icons (WMO Weather Codes)

Icons are determined by WMO weather interpretation codes and displayed above each marker along with the rounded temperature:

β˜€οΈ
0-3: Clear to Partly Cloudy
🌫️
45-48: Fog
🌧️
51-67: Drizzle/Rain
🌨️
71-77: Snow
